With several years of experience within the NHS and Health and Social care field many share that my approach towards psychotherapy is creative and collaborative.
Having a strong therapeutic working alliance with a therapist is likely to be an important factor for you when considering therapy. My approach to therapy aims to establish a way in which we can working together, whereby the process provides you with a sense of commitment, importance and genuine interest towards you and the themes you choose to explore.
I take pride in my approach that supports differing perspectives, without being wedded to any one particular idea. It encourages a liberating space for personal exploration which will support you to find your own way leading to integral lasting transformation.
I completed my training at the Philadelphia Association founded in 1965 by R.D Laing and colleagues. It was set up to challenge established ways of thinking and responding to suffering and distress while developing an open minded alternative approach to psychotherapy. I have adopted much of this in my approach to working with people who experience mental ill health, psychological and/or emotional distress, while working alongside psychiatry and other clinical medicalised approaches.
My training, whilst being psychoanalytically informed included ideas from an existential perspective, grounded in the use of philosophy. The style of the training considered and explored assumptions related to the practice of psychotherapy while critiquing psychoanalytic concepts and theories. As a result, I’ve developed upon existing skills, cultivating an open and thoughtful attitude towards psychotherapy and when applied in practice offers you my unique philosophical and practical approach to therapy.
